The Legacy of Slavery and Mass Incarceration

During this past week in Birmingham and Montgomery, we went to many different places, but the one that impacted me the most was the Legacy Museum. The Museum showed the hardships that our ancestors faced when they were held as slaves. They fought back, and many were killed, from the time of slavery to the civil rights era to help gain for us all of our rights we have now. The Museum also went into present day with incarceration and how it’s the new form of slavery,

and that lots of people are being wrongfully convicted and going to prison for crimes that they didn’t commit. As minorities and African Americans we need to have knowledge of our true history that it wasn’t easy; it was a major challenge. By knowing our history as black men we won’t fall into the trap which is the prison system because we know what our people stand for and what they fought for.
